Chicago Date Ideas: The History

Chicago clubs and bars have always had a compelling place in the local neighborhoods. However, several of these bars and nightclubs have since closed. However, for the most part, many of them have produced some great memories that local folks are reluctant to relinquish. There were some exceptional places that served up amazing cocktails and food. Many of the current establishments may never be able to compare, but it is a wait and see game. Divey and Dodger was a corner bar in Bucktown that had a small dance floor towards the back of the building and where locals danced to their favorite 80s music. Most of the drinks back then had glow sticks in them. The bar closed its doors in 2005 after being opened for twenty years. Condos are now in its place. Biddy Mulligan's was a rock club located on Sheridan Road, which was located south of Evanston cemetery. It opened and closed several times. At one time, it re-opened only to close again within four months. Patrons came to expect this after a while. During the 70s and 80s, it was different because of different management that knew how to run the place, bringing in some good musical talent like Smashing Pumpkins to rock the place. Today, Simpson Moe's tavern has taken over the building.

It was a place that many men met at the end of a long day. They served a wide variety of German beers. The place closed its doors in 2002. Katerina's was opened for about fifteen years. It was a jazz bar that offered live entertainment, showcasing artists from the local community and nationwide. They served Greek food and had a list of cocktails on their menu. The bar was replaced by another bar known as the Constellation.

The Lyon's Den was a local pub or what some would call a dive bar. it hosted live musical entertainment. You could expect an open mic night for comedy acts. The bar shut its doors in 2004, making room for soccer hooligans. Go to History of Chicago Date Ideas for the details.
