HammerJacks was one of the largest East Coast dance clubs in the 1980s and 1990s. This was one of the places where many big rock bands played. In 1994, it was demolished to make way for a parking lot. In the past when you would find a drug store on the corner of every neighborhood, the milkshake market in the city of Baltimore was also popular. Prevas Brothers utilized the opportunity to set up a lunch counter in Baltimore Market where milkshake was its staple product. The company became a local household name. Baltimore Market is still opened, but Prevas Brothers is history.
One of the most popular restaurants in the city of Baltimore was Haussner. It was the go to place for locals to dine. It was opened in 1926 and closed its door in 1999. People flocked the restaurant to enjoy their crab cakes and huge ball of string that was made from the edges of napkins. The ball of string remained in the American Dime Museum until it closed in 2006. Roland Park Bakery, owned by Anita Ward was the place to get delicious cookies, pastries and cupcakes. If you had a sweet tooth, this is where you would go. The place operated for thirty years until it closed in 2013. Much to the dismay of the locals, the National Pinball Museum closed down with no intention to reopen.
Sonar was one of the clubs that offered live entertainment from bands that played metal music. The club was closed in 2012. One of the largest night clubs in the city of Baltimore was Voltage located in O'Donnell Heights. It attracted a younger crowd where glow parties was the norm on weekends. College students were known to flock the place. You could expect underground music as well as hip hop and techno music. To the disappointment of these college students, Voltage closed its doors.
